Colleen’s not the only one with *connections*, my dear friend Joe, who moonlights at a bar on weekends, is allowing me to put a Donation Jar by the front door (where you pay the cover charge) for 2 weekends!! Hopefully, people will pay their cover charge and drop some change in for me!!
Sheryl Crow says she is heading toward a full recovery from breast cancer surgery earlier this week.
News of Crow’s cancer battle was broken Friday on her Website and confirmed by her publicist, Dave Tomberlin, who announced the 44-year-old singer-songwriter underwent successful surgery on Wednesday.
“Her doctors think her prognosis is excellent,” Tomberlin said.
The nine-time Grammy winner, who described the procudure as “minimally evasive,” will now begin precautionary radiation treatment, according to a statement on sherylcrow.com.
“I am joining the more than 200,000 women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year,” Crow says on the site, adding the cancer was detected early.
“I am inspired by the brave women who have faced this battle before me and grateful for the support of family and friends.”
I think she’s one rockin’ chick.
I’ve got *connections* with people at Publix, so I just scheduled our first fundraising day there. We’ll be at the Hollybrook Plaza Publix in Wesley Chapel, FL on March 25th, from 10am-4pm.
I was checking out the gear section of the 3 day website and I think I’ll order some of the balloons for our display table. I need to attempt to locate a pink tablecloth (which I hope will be easier with Easter/Spring coming) and we’ll need to make some signs and flyers to pass out. Hopefully we’ll earn a few bucks in our bucket! My girls want to be there with us too - who can resist cute little girls asking for help??
Anyone who has done the walk before , or has inside information, please share what kind of meals and/or snacks we are going to have. Dana and I were discussing this the other day, she is a very picky eater and is concerned that she may have to pack a bag of her own food!
We have been officially knocked out of the top 5 fundraising teams for Philly. There are only 8 months left until we will be at the opening ceremony….time to step it up and start pulling in some serious money!
Or 4 miles, depending on what I look at. Catherine, Dana and I walked the trail yesterday at Starkey Park. We were without Colleen since she is out in Colorado playing in the snow. The trail at this park is 6.5 miles long, and marked every half a mile with paint, which is nice…because you know exactly where you are..but, I had Colleen’s pedometer, and their mileage did not match up to the pedometer?? (Either way, I burned off the cheese danish I had for breakfast!) There were no water fountains on the trail, which made Catherine unhappy…and my dogs were barking when we finished!
I did something I’ve never done before today. I paid $100 for sneakers! I have never, EVER paid that much for any pair of shoes before - and I love me some shoes. And sneakers? I have ONE pair of sneakers I’ve been wearing for 10 years - that shows you how often I wear them. Anyway, I decided to visit The Running Center of Tampa Bay for my sneaker needs. I can’t say enough good things about these guys! Lee did my sneaker fitting. He observed how I walk, he measured my feet (my right foot is a half size bigger) and watched me stand flat footed (I have high arches too!) and gave me two shoes to try on. I liked the Saucony Triumph the best. I even got a 10% discount since the shoes are for a good cause
After that, I showed off my new sneakers to Cheryl, and we took a picture. I’m going to frame it as a gift for someone who donated a lot of money to us both - I may see him this weekend in Denver!
I’m meeting Cheryl in a few minutes to do our weekly beach walk. The problem is, it’s 45 degrees out, with winds gusting anywhere from 24mph to 37mph. And we’re walking…AT THE BEACH. Did I mention the causeway? Nice, unprotected area - no trees - I predict we’re going to freeze our hineys off!
We said last week we WOULD go around 2 times this week, for a total of 5 miles. We’ll see if we can stick to that!
I checked our team page this morning, and it seems the Groovy Mamas have been bumped down to 3rd on the list of top fundraisers….I guess that means we need to step it up a notch ladies!!
I had RSVP’ed for a phone FOCUS meeting for the walk last night. I completely missed it, because I was feeling poorly. Why? Because an 83 year old woman backed into my car at the post office. Hopefully one of the other girlies here got into the phone call and got some good info to share.
