Ever since we signed up for the 3-Day, I’ve become much more aware of all of the 3-Day or breast cancer collectibles and things like that.  Sort of like how when you get a new car, suddenly it seems that everyone on the road has the same exact car?  Anyway, since I used to have a small music box collection (and my husband recently confessed to me that he LIKES music boxes) I decided to see what kind of 3-Day or breast cancer music boxes I could find.  I think it would be a nice little keepsake to remind me of the 3-Day long after my blisters are healed.

I found a great selection of music boxes & gifts and even some with the pink theme I’m looking for.  I really like the pink ribbon on the top of this one.  And this one has the Serenity Prayer on it.  Overall the store has a fantastic collection (including Thomas Kinkade and the prices are decent…I’m keeping this in mind :-)

Did you know you could send mail to someone (hey, I’m someone!) walking in the 3 day?  Each walk has their own “address” to mail to – and for the Philly walk, you can send mail to:

Breast Cancer 3-Day Camp Post Office – Philadelphia
Attn: Participant Name
1200 W. 35th Ave Suite #360
Chicago, IL  60609

Mail your letters of encouragement, or just a note asking how our blisters are doing, no later than 2 weeks prior to the event, which starts October 6, 2006.  They’ll be delivered to my 3-Day event and I can pick them up at the 3-Day post office.  Don’t forget to put the participant’s name (hey, I’m a participant!) on the outside of the envelope.  No boxes/packages - envelopes only!  Letters will not be mailed to participants after the event. Any unclaimed letters will be disposed of.

The last time I went to the chiropractor, aka Dr. Hottie, we were talking about non-alternative medicine.  By non-alternative, I mean something not cooked up in a lab – herbs, acupuncture, chiro…it’s something I’ve had in the back of my mind for a long time.  For example, when I was a teenager, I used to wake up with horrible cramps in my calves in the middle of the night.  Nothing could stop them – but finally someone recommended taking a potassium supplement, and that worked.  I’d rather do that than pop a pill.  With 60 miles looming in front of me, I’m worried about the possible pain, and what I can do to alleve it and even prevent it.  Naturally.  I can’t be popping Advil for 3 days straight!

I was reading up online about Chinese Herbs and Alternative Remedies and learned that Traditional Chinese Medicine is all about balance, like ying and yang. Chinese herbal medicine is one of the strongest & most natural medicinals you can find, due to the combination of herbs.  You can use the herbs for a tea, or even a soak for poor tired muscles.  Or try an oil for pulse points.  One product in particular stood out to me – it’s called Kang Gu Zeng Sheng Pian and it can be used for occasional pain and swelling of tendons and bones, especially in neck and lower back. It’s amazing stuff once you start looking into it, and definitely all natural!

I was just looking at our team stats – together, we have raised $8,941.  That’s amazing to me.  When we went to Expo, we were told that the 3Day raised $5 million dollars last year.  FIVE MILLION DOLLARS, by men and women like us, who walk.  AMAZING!

I was checking things out over at TvTopTen.com – they’ve got a ton of infomercial products, including a whole section of health, nutrition, sports, & fitness items.  Each product has a section of reviews on it too – very helpful.  After walking 60 miles, I’ll probably need some of these shoe inserts!

Go to The Running Center and get those 8 1/2 sneakers so they can be broken in before the walk!

Since I’m pretty clueless in the YMCA, I’m always looking for infomation on what I should be doing in my workouts to prep for the big walk.  I found a Bodybuilding Forum that has discussion topics like training, fat loss, exercise, and more.  There are lots of people in the know there, who are willing to give you information to help you have the best workout possible.

Nutrisystem is back in town.  I found Nutrisystem Nourish on TVTopTen.com.  I’m not impressed with any “food system” that doesn’t promote the balance of diet AND exercise.  I can walk 60 miles, but if I eat crap, it’s not going to help me to be fit.  And I can eat healthy, but if I don’t exercise, there’s no point to eating healthy.   What’s up with their plan of providing you food for a fee each month?  Why can’t they teach people how to make their own healthy food instead?  (Well, I guess because that wouldn’t make them a profit…?)  I can’t imagine paying anything (their plans start at *only* $10 a month) for pre-packaged food.  Boo Nutrisystem – stop being a crutch for people, and let them get healthy in a healthy way!

6 weeks left til the big walk.  Still need to find a sleeping bag that won’t put me over my 35 lb. bag limit.  And a pillow.  And many other things.
