I’ll admit, I used *69 a lot when it came out. And being that I’m nosy about who is calling me, I love caller ID. I’m not sure about reverse cell phone lookup though. I can see people abusing it! I mean, haven’t we all called a wrong number at one time or another, realized it, and hung up before someone answered? I have. The last time I did that, the people called back FIVE times. FIVE TIMES! Just accept it was a wrong number, and move on. If I didn’t talk to you or leave a message, there’s no need to call me back. I don’t obsess over numbers that show up as “unknown” on my cell phone. I simply don’t care. I don’t answer “unknown” calls, because if it’s someone that needs to reach me, they’ll leave a message!
I didn’t make New Years Resolutions, but if I had, one of them would have been to get to the gym two or three times a week. I may be skinny, but I have zero muscle tone, and I don’t like it. If I can get to the YMCA a few times a week, I could change that. Build some upper body, work out my legs…tighten up my stomach to get rid of the mini muffin top…
whadya think?
I love freebies, and I love to exercise my mind. I found a cool site that combines both of those things by providing you with free online crossword puzzles! Now, I’m certainly not the type who can do the puzzle in the New York Times, in pen, pencil, or anything else, but I do love a good challenge. I don’t do soduku since it requires math, but crossword puzzles are perfect for me, since I’m full of useless trivia. One of the best crossword books I ever had was all about TV. Perfect for me, since I’m a regular TV addict. I can answer just about anything about any show on TV in the past 30 years…from who Marcia Brady had a crush on, to the name of Radar’s teddy bear on M*A*S*H. And…you can even create custom puzzles. Those would be neat to share with friends. I see a TV puzzle in my future!
They’re working on a crossword contest too - they’ll post the puzzle at a certain time and the first person to complete it wins. Prizes for doing a puzzle? I’m so on board with that! Like I said…I like a good challenge…racing the clock against other people just adds to the rush!![]()
One of the things we came up with last year to give our fundraisers some more “punch” was freebies. We bought a jumbo bag of lollipops and handed them out to every kid who passed our way. They only cost us a few pennies each, but almost every kid who got a lolli turned into a donation - why? Because their parents felt guilty over taking free candy, so they put money in our buckets.
Hey, whatever works, right?
We called 3 of our credit card companies this week to close our accounts. We have a zero balance on each of the credit cards, and didn’t want to continue paying the annual fee. When we told the reps this, at each company, they removed the annual fee. Just like that! In other credit card news, did you know more people are opting to use the equity in their home for extra cash, instead of using a credit card? I guess it would depend for us, on how much getting to that equity was going to cost up front. We’ve been able to get cards with 0% balance transfers, and as long as you keep switching the balance from card to card, you can pay it off without every paying interest. It’s a good strategy, but you can’t miss a payment, or you’ll often lose out on the promotional terms as punishment!
I had a brainstorm last night in bed (I get my best ideas there!) about putting together a sponsorship deal for the 3Day. I’m still working out the details in my head, but it’ll be interesting to see how this comes together, and if I can get the right kind of company to sponsor me. If they do…it would be worth the small investment for the amount of press they can get in return…
The temp dropped a lot last night, and we even had to turn our heat on! With weather like this, we’re definitely not enjoying the outdoors. We’ve used our new lanai table exactly twice since we bought it, and both times, we saw out there shivering while we ate.
Since the table has a spot for an umbrella stand in it, I was thinking about getting something like this outdoor leisure umbrella heater. With that blowing hot air on my tootsies, I could sit outside in this weather for hours….or we could just tuck this stand up heater into a corner of the lanai. Instead of only being able to enjoy our patio when it’s cold, we could enjoy it all year round!![]()
This is a friendly public service announcement to remind you that Valentine’s Day is JUST around the corner…3 weeks and counting, right? My husband will probably be at work on Valentine’s Day, but I know he’ll still do right by me. Candy, and a card, and maybe a new pair of 3Day sneakers…and who knows what else I’ll get. Maybe one of these Valentines Day gift baskets? I’m worth it. I don’t know if I’m worth the bottle of Dom Perignon, but I’ll leave that up to my husband to decide…
like I said, he won’t do wrong by me. He’s VERY well trained!
The 3DayGear.com website is having a nice little clearance sale on a few things. I snagged the V-neck shirt that says “walk, walk, walk, walk, walk, walk, walk, eat, walk, walk, walk, walk, walk, sleep”. Cute, huh? I already have the license plate bracket or I would have grabbed that too. If you get the V-neck - note that is does run small because it’s form fitting. I got a size larger than normal.
Have you ever needed to call 911 to request an ambulance? I have, and it was one of the scariest moments of my life. I was bitten by a caterpillar (one of those big fuzzy ones) and had an extremely strong allergic reaction to it. My arm felt like it was on fire. I thought I would die before the ambulance got there, but I didn’t, and they took care of me. Another time, our daughter got into her vitamins, and ate too many - we had to ride in an ambulance to the childrens hospital. Never a dull moment! And whenever I see the helicopter that transports the worst cases down to Tampa, I saw a little prayer - not just for the victims of the accident who need help, but for the people working in the air evac, that they are able to save a life. I’m sure paramedics and people working in air evac have amazing tales to tell. I found this story online about a man from Japan who injured himself in the US, and was transported back to Japan by a medical team. The flight took 19 HOURS and they had to stop in Seattle, Alaska, and Russia for fuel before arriving back in Japan. In the end, the patient arrived safely though, and that’s what matters. The same air evac company also transported hospital patients in danger of being of being hit by Hurricane Rita to a safer location. Never a dull moment!
