After reading through the handbook for the 3-Day last year, we weren’t quite clear on whether or not cell phones we allowed. Being that we walked out of town, we bought them with us anyway. We did pull them out from time to time on the walk (to touch base with other team members and get their locations) and we were just asked to move to the side. In other words, you can’t walk and talk. I’ll definitely have my cell phone with me this year. Since we’re walking in Tampa, my husband and kids will be coming out to cheering stations to cheer me on, and I can use my cell phone to let them know my approx. location.
I definitely plan on replacing my cell phone before the walk also. My Motorola RAZR doesn’t send text or picture messages, and Cingular can’t figure out why it won’t work, but they suspect it’s because I bought the phone from a non-reputable cell phone dealer. I won’t make that mistake again. Wirefly has lots and lots of cell phone deals on their site, and I’ve been checking them out. Since we just started our 2 year contract with Cingular a few months ago, it’s too early for me to get a free phone from them, so I’ll be buying it from someone else, like Wirefly. At the Wirefly website, you can shop by carrier, phone type, or the type of service plan you prefer. They’re even offering free Motorola RAZR phones depending on the type of service plan you sign up for. Wirefly also offers ringtones and cell phone accessories, so no matter what you need, you can find it there. On the main page of their site, they even have a top ten list of the best free phone offers. I really love how they’re so willing to show you how to save money on a cell phone, or even get one for free. I can’t wait to have a WORKING phone for the walk so I can send pictures to people during the walk!
