Here’s a neat way to raise some quick cash for a great charity…it’s an auction involving boxer shorts! No, not boxer shorts the underwear, but a boxer’s shorts - specifically, heavyweight boxer Roman Greenberg. The shorts are being auctioned off by Backgammon Masters, the guys with the cool site where you can play backgammon online.

Roman Greenberg was born in Russia and is Jewish. And the game of backgammon (or Tavla) is popular in Arab countries. Thus, the decision was made to aution off Roman’s shorts (the bidding starts at $100,000) and to let the proceeds go to a charity that helps Arab & Jewish youth. But the question remains - how did a backgammon website get their hands on the heavyweight boxer’s shorts? BackgammonMasters.com purchased the shorts for a “hefty” sum to help Greenberg continue his training…so in a way, the site is sponsoring the boxer in his WBO top 5 hopes.

I love to see unique fundraising ideas like this, especially those with a twist like this. Who would have through that boxer shorts could be sold to raise a ton of money for such a great charity organization? It’ll be interesting to see if the backgammon site will get a ton of money from this for their charity of choice, or merely recoup the money they gave to Roman Greenberg.
