I’m amazed that I still have 4 months to go until the walk, and I’m only $69 away from my goal. What a huge, huge relief to almost be done with my fundraising. Definitely a big difference from last year when I was still trying to scrape the money together, 4 weeks after the walk. Knowing I’m almost done makes going into the walk that much more stress free too. Have you donated yet? For each $20 donation you get your name over there —>
I hope that when I go to the 3DayWalk this year, and if I need a hotel like last year, that it’s NOT room 1408. In fact, I’d be quite pleased to never, ever stay in a room 1408, in any hotel, for the rest of my life! Why the apprehension about room 1408? If you haven’t read the Stephen King novella, the 1408 Movie will make you feel the same way about room 1408. I don’t know how Stephen King comes up with this stuff. If asked to tell you a scary story, I’d recycle that one about the couple on Lover’s Lane, and hearing on the radio about the escaped mental patient, so they stay in the car all night, and find the hook on the car door in the morning? I heard that at a sleepover when I was about 9 and didn’t sleep ALL night long. Yeah, I’m not really original as far as the scary stuff goes. Good thing people like Stephen King are!
In the 1408 Movie movie, you’ll meet a ghost hunter out to prove ghosts don’t exist, and some ghosts out to prove him wrong. There’s no couple on Lover’s Lane, there’s no hook on a door handle, but I watched the trailer and actually jumped in my seat a few times because it unnerved me so. I really dig the whole suspense thing, and not know what will happen, or what can happen, or why it’s even happening. And John Cusack is the right guy for the role too - everyone loves him, but he’s really talented and can play a lot of different types. (Ever see him as a hit man in Grosse Point Blank?)
Only $100 left to go for my fundraising efforts! As Jim says, “that’s not a bad check to write”, should we have to fund it myself. I don’t think we will be doing that though, considering I still have donations coming in. It’s been a pretty steady stream over the last few days! Our team has raised over $9,000 so far!

No two drug-addicted individuals are the same. For as many as can be found coming from impoverished, abusive, or other adverse backgrounds, just as many come from affluent backgrounds and/or loving and caring families. Addiction becomes the equalizer, leaving all of its victims in the same state of self-destructive single-mindedness, regardless of race or religion, wealth or poverty, education or job status. This is why it is so important that a drug rehab treatment program be customized to the individual person seeking help. While the outward symptoms of addiction may seem the same in everyone, the underlying causes are different.
A quality drug treatment center will focus on individualized treatment without corralling its clients into group session after group session. Casa Palmera incorporates a 12-step program into most of its treatment programs as supplement in the treatment of drug addiction, but its primary focus is on thorough, individualized care. Clients participate in at least 4 private therapy sessions per week with professionals deemed suitable for the client’s individual needs.
Casa Palmera also centers its treatment on four primary modules: Environment, lifestyle, medical/psychotherapy, and complementary medicine. By providing treatment in each of these core areas, Casa Palmera is able to provide a truly holistic approach to recovery. Many programs focus only on the medical/psychotherapy side of addiction, but by incorporating the other three modules, the drug treatment goes beyond treating the symptoms of the addiction and helps clients to learn to cope with everyday life without the use of drugs. Clients learn to live a balanced life by making healthy, conscious choices in a safe environment. What they learn is directly applied to life outside of rehab.
