Cheryl had a great fundraising idea, and it paid off! She printed out some 3-Day business cards and put them on cars in the parking lot of her office. Today she received a donation from someone, for $150! She’s got no clue who it came from, so we can only assume that it was someone who saw one of the cards and decided to donate. She’s now almost halfway to her goal!
One week from today we being our 60 mile journey!
I just got off the phone with Deb, our coach. She hooked me up with the towel service, which I had not signed up for when I checked in. She also gave me some last minute tips. Packing: your sleeping bag MUST be packed INSIDE your “not over 35 lbs” duffel bag..she insists that stuffing it in works! Camp: Bring something, anything,to make your tent stand out from others, or you may stumble into the wrong one on your way back from showering or eating! I’m bringing my Tampa Bay Bucs Flag to pin on ours…I’m sure that will go over real well in Eagle Town! And, don’t forget the plastic tarp to put over it, as the evening dew up there may seep through! Medical: Do not worry too much about moleskin, band aids, tylenol, etc…unless you need something specific, they have all of that at the medical tent and pit stops. The Walk: She is jealoous that she is not walking in PHL (Coaches can’t walk in the even they are coaching), as the route chosen is very scenic. Day one we will see some lovely, upscale neighborhoods going into PHL, Day Two & Three we will see a lot of the historical sites.
So, here we are about 3 weeks out….and I am starting to consider what to pack for our trek. Anybody have any ideas? I did not get another pair of sneakers…did anyone else invest in 2 pair, or you going to brave it with only 1? I have been keeping abreast of the weather up there via my family in Jersey…so as we get closer I’ll know if I need shorts or longs.
It is only ONE MONTH until we start our walk! Has anyone been training, fundraising..anything? If you are, no one is posting about it! Are you all ready?
What started out as a weekend at Disney with no training scheduled….actually ended up being a walking weekend for me! Walked all over 2 Disney parks for 2 days. RAN to my car and back (at least a half mile each way) when one of my young cousins forgot her ticket in the hotel and I had to go back and get it, and when it was time to leave for the day, I opted to walk to my car and not take the tram.
Friday August 18th is “Pitch for Pink” night at Brighthouse Networks Field! Come out and watch the Clearwater Threshers play the Sarasota Reds at 7pm, the players will be wearing pink jerseys! All monies raised through tickets sales and silent auctions will go to the Susan Cheek Needler Breast Center at Morton Plant Mease. First 1500 women in the gate get a PINK Commemorative Ballcap! Big Brothers/Big Sisters got a block of tickets to this game, so I will be in attendance with my “little”.
I did another 6 miles Saturday morning, mostly to work off my anxiety for the surprise party being thrown that evening….but, hey, at least it motivated me to get outside and walk in this unforgiveable August Florida heat!
So, I had this “thing” on the bottom of my heel..small bump, wart sized but hurt like a splinter was in it, but there was no splinter…..and it was starting to bother me when I walk. So, rather than take the easy option of ignorning it and have all kinds of problems at the actual walk, I scheduled an appt with my dermatologist. Wasn’t sure if it was a “skin” thing, or a “foot” thing, but I have a regular dermatoligist so I figured I’d let him look at it and go from there. After much digging with the scalpel (tasty!)..it seems I have an inverted calous. It has grown into the skin rather than above, and it grows like an upside down pyramid, and the point was hitting a nerve. So, he scraped some skin off of it, and I have to wear those little Dr Scholl’s corn pads (with the hole in the middle) to keep the pressure off of it, and he said it would work it’s way topside and go away.
Today is Colleen’s 30th birthday! She is our team co-captain, and my younger sister (feelin’ my age)…feel free to drop her some special birthday love in the form of a donation to our cause! You can find here through the Breast Cancer 3 day site www.the3day.org…and search for her by name (Colleen Caldwell) under the Philadelphia link! Thanks, and Happy Birthday Colleen!!
