Thanks to my friend Marisa and her big donation this week, I’m almost at my $2200 goal! I’ve got only $364 left to go, which means I don’t have to do any fundraisers in the hot sun this summer. I’m just thrilled beyond belief that I am this close, this soon, and that I won’t still be fundraising AFTER the walk is over, like I was last year. That takes a lot of pressure of me, and means that instead of raising money, I can work on training.
Remember, if you donate at least $20, you get your name over there with a link to your site —>
You can donate online at using a credit card or debit card http://www.the3day.org/tampabay07/colleenc or if you prefer, send me a Paypal payment to colleen_ccATyahooDOTcom and I’ll process the donation using that instead.
My free Thorlos came this week! Didn’t try them on yet, and I don’t have a clue as to when I’m going to get a training walk in, but free socks are good, right? I also got another donation from a coworker today! I’m getting closer to that $1700 mark, and I’m absolutely thrilled. I’m going to put less in my own “pot” this year, and saving money on a hotel and airfare by walking locally.
Yesterday I sent out an email to my office asking for donations for the walk. I’m happy to report that I’ve already received 2 donations from coworkers for $20 each – woot! I think I’m less than $550 away from my $2200 goal now, which I am thrilled about, considering that I still have 5 months til the walk. I set a goal to be done with my fundraising much earlier this year, and I’m almost there!
Cheryl had a great fundraising idea, and it paid off! She printed out some 3-Day business cards and put them on cars in the parking lot of her office. Today she received a donation from someone, for $150! She’s got no clue who it came from, so we can only assume that it was someone who saw one of the cards and decided to donate. She’s now almost halfway to her goal!
I got a GREAT email from the Breast Cancer 3-Day today!
Congratulations – you’re halfway there! Thank you for your hard work fundraising and for your support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Breast Cancer Fund.
Because 10 million women around the world could die from breast cancer in the next 25 years without the cure, we are fighting every minute of every day to save every life.
Give yourself a well-deserved pat on the back – and then keep going! Continue with the same fundraising techniques that have been successful for you already, and add a few new approaches to your plan. Visit the Fundraising Tools page at www.The3Day.org for additional fundraising tips and ideas.
Please extend our thanks to your donors. Every dollar makes a difference!
Thank you, donors! Some of you are listed over there in my sidebar —>
If you’d like to be listed there, all it takes is one $20 donation. Your link will stay up til the end of this year, when I start fundraising for the 2008 walk! Leave me a comment if you’d like to donate with your PayPal account, or donate online right now at http://the3day.org/tampabay07/colleenc
My sister has asked a few co-workers to donate to her 3-Day campaign, only to be told they “can’t afford it”. Well yeah, if you spend money on eating lunch out every day at work, instead of brown bagging it, I can see how it’s hard to cough up $5 for a good cause. ::eyeroll::
The next time she is met with that response, she could quote from this list of 101 Ways To Save $1 A Week. If her co-workers put a few of the ideas to good use, they could easily afford to donate $5 or $10 to her 3-Day campaign. My idea of brown bagging it to lunch made the list (#97) , and there are other similar ideas, like only dining out once a week, or once a month. Or, go out for lunch instead of dinner. Lunch specials are often much cheaper, and the smaller portions mean less waste.
For those of you walking in the 3-Day and wanting to save money, borrow a sleeping bag from a friend. Split the cost of a hotel room before and after with other team members. Shop around and use coupons for deals on your sneakers, socks, and other gear. And most importantly, ask, ask, ASK for donations so you’re not coming up with the $2200 out of your own pocket!
I don’t consider myself to be an expert on fundraising, but I guess others do! I met a friend today to give her some pants that are too big for my son. She offered to alter them for free, if I’d share some tips and ideas for fundraiser with her, for a charity she’s involved in. Well, SURE! I guess after 2 years of the 3-Day, I do have a few good ideas about raising money, and I shouldn’t sell myself short.
We’re meeting up next week so she can pick my brain.
If you read my post about my mailbox surprise last week, wow, do I have a story to top that! This morning my oldest came and woke me up – it was about 10:30am and I was sleeping in. She told me a man was at the door…and knowing I wasn’t expecting anyone, I wasn’t in a hurry to get downstairs. I figured it was someone trying to sell me something. I told her not to answer it, and got up, went potty, brushed my teeth, and wandered downstairs. I noticed he was still at the door, so I went to find out what he wanted. Turns out it was a neighbor a few house down who had gotten a copy of my yard sale flyer. (I passed them out to every house in my development) He handed me a check for TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS and apologized for not being able to help with the yard sale last week.
Wow!
I told him thank you about a million times and than ran inside to get one of my donation forms. I got the check in the mailbox today to submit to the 3-Day people so it can be applied to my account. Technically, this means I made almost $700 with my yard sale. Once his donation is applied to my account, I’ll be just over $1500.
Double wow!
I made my yard sale donation to my 3-Day account last night, which boosted my total up to almost $1300. I’m over halfway towards my $2200 goal now, and I am certain I will be COMPLETELY done fundraising before the walk this year.
As a reminder, I am taking donations from all of you – and you get something in return! By donating $20 (go right here to my 3-Day page to donate) you’ll get your name listed over there —> til October, when I make the walk. This is a PR 4 site, so it’s it’s worth your while to be linked, and your $20 definitely goes to an excellent cause, if I do say so myself!
My 9 year old handed me $15 of her own money during the yard sale last weekend, and told me she wanted to donate to me, as well as my sister, Dana, and Sindy, who I walked with last year. Last night I finally got the chance to get online and make the donations for her, and she wrote a special little note to each person. Of the 5 of us who walked last year, Sindy and I will be in Tampa in 2007, Cheryl is walking in Philadelphia again with her cousin, and Dana will be in Atlanta. I don’t know if Chris will be walking again in 2007.
Hope you all got your Gracie donations!
