I consider myself to be all about the healthy boobies. And I just realized that I didn’t have my mammogram yet this year. Whoops!

It all started when LaDonna reminded me about Blogathon this week. She’s blogging on behalf of Livestrong and will be giving a Livestrong bracelet to anyone who donates $10 to her campaign. She’s using the theme of healthy living to keep her inspired during Blogathon, and it started me thinking…my last mammogram was in May of 2006.

You see, even though I’m *only* 30 (til Friday, anyway) because there’s a history of breast cancer in my family, I started getting mammograms last year. I need to have them every 12 months – not any sooner than that, or my insurance company won’t pay for it, and that was a HUGE hassle last year because of my age. I don’t want to push my luck! Anyway, I remembered in May I was due but decided to put it off for a month because of the insurance rules, and I just…forgot! I’m going to call and schedule it this week. I’ll get my boobs squeezed in a vice as my birthday present to myself.

Be sure to check out Blogathon and throw LaDonna a donation to get one of those cool bracelets!

The3Day.org has a new, bolder look! Gone are the pastel pinks and royal blues. The new look is a dark pink, almost a magenta, against a bold, black background. There’s a new logo too:

3day logo

Why the new look and dark, bold colors? To symbolize that walking in the 3Day is the boldest step you can take to stop breast cancer. The 3 circles symbolize the 3 days on the walk. Me, I’m just happy to get rid of the pale pink. Pink pink pink! And personally, I think *I* was the inspiration for the color scheme, and here’s the proof:

Note dark pink jacket and black pants! Yes, I see exactly why the 3day site made the switch – because it looked so good on me!

I got another $20 donation today, and this brings my grand total up to $1956 raised! Amazing! I got an email about the dates for Expo. I don’t think I’ll go this year. It was interesting last year when I was a complete newbie, but it’s kind of far from my house and I think I’ve got what I need already as far as clothes and such, so I don’t need to spend more cash at Expo. (Last year I bought New Balance shorts there, to wear for the walk, and you all know I ended up wearing 2 pairs of pants and a Mylar blanket…HA!)

My sister shared with me that Energizer batteries will be donating $350,000 to Susan G. Koman, and they’ve got a neat offer for a free (with Energizer proof of purchase) pink tote bag – more details on her blog! With so many companies selling pink stuff and offering a “portion” of proceeds to Susan G. Komen, it’s great to see Energizer making a no strings donation offer…and such a big one, at that! Everyone uses batteries too, so it’s easy to save a few UPC’s and get yourself that tote bag.

Warning…shameless begging ahead! :-)

I started this blog last year before my first walk so that I could share my experience, and I even blogged DURING the event from a hotel room that night (our campsites were rained out) – how’s that for commitment?

The blog is up for the best charity blog award at the Blogger’s Choice Awards.

Now, normally, I wouldn’t care much, except that I’m going to be at the conference where the awards are given out, and how neat would it be to actually be there to win? Some blog about helping kids is nipping at my heels, and not for nothing, but I don’t see them walking 60 miles. The most I saw was mention of a 2.3 mile walk, which as you all know is a warm up for me. I’m walking 60 miles, for the 2nd time, for my cause. And isn’t that worth a vote? (All of the above is completely tongue in cheek – kids are a worthy cause of course, but I do want to win)

I hope that if this blog wins, we’ll get a little more attention from the blogosphere for the cause. More attention means more donations, and more donations means more women with healthy breasts. And really, do you want to be AGAINST healthy breasts?

You do need to register to vote, but please consider doing so to help me out. If you can’t afford to donate, or simply don’t want to part with $20, this is the next best thing you can do to help me out. When you register, just return to the ‘best charity’ blog category and vote for 3DayMom here:

http://www.bloggerschoiceawards.com/blogs/show/166

I have several blogs up there in different categories, but best charity is the one I REALLY want to win. However, if you’re so inclined to vote for more once you vote for 3 DayMom – here are the links for all of my blogs:

It was almost a year ago that I had my very first mammogram. You know what that means – time for another one! Whoopee! I’m only 30, but my doctor suggested that I get one every year from now one because of my mom having breast cancer. (Which is apparently some big family secret, so if you run into her, don’t mention that you read this on the internet. HA!) Anyway, I plan on calling my gynocologist soon and scheduling my annual “feet in the stirrups and scooch down please” apppointment. After going to the same doctor for 12 years, and having going through 3 pregnancies with the office, they all know me, and it’s actually a pleasure walking in and seeing the doctor and all of the nurses in their cute pink nursing scrubs. I’m probably the only person I know who looks forward to visiting the gynocologist!

I don’t mind the mammogram so much either. I was a bit apprehensive about it last year….ok, a LOT apprehensive, but it wasn’t bad at all, and I won’t be worried a bit about doing it this year. The only thing I’m worried about is another fight with the insurance company about covering it. It took me a LONG time to get that claim covered last year, even thought they’re supposed to do if the doctor specifies a good reason for it. Stupidheads.

I’ve been searching for a 3-Day license plate for the front of my car for a few months now, without success. I’m a bit surprised that the 3-Day people sell a bracket to go around my plate in the rear, but they don’t sell anything for the front. I’m tempted to make my own! I have the plate that came on the car when we bought it from the dealer, and I could customize a few stickers online to act as bumper stickers to cover up the old plate. That would work, right? Not only would it be what I want, it would be totally custom, and no one else on the road would have the same design as me!

My friend Teresa (and 3Day team captain) emailed me earlier this week to let me know about a special that would appear on a local TV station regarding the 3Day. Wouldn’t you know it, despite her reminder to set my DVR, I didn’t? I wonder if anyone did get a recording of it…and if there’s any way I could copy that. Hmmm. I know there are programs you can use to copy DVDs, like 123 Copy DVD, but I don’t know if you can use that to copy a recording from a DVR.

Maybe I’ll just have to call WUSF (my high school crush works there) and beg.

My friend Lisa sent me a link to another breast cancer blog she found this week – the blog is called From Margate To The Maasai, and it’s written by Jeremy Jacobs of London. His walk for breast cancer was a heck of a lot more interesting than mine, because he did it in Africa, over the course of 9 days last month. Forget the bum and sailors we saw on the streets of Philadelphia – how would you like coming across a lion during your trek for charity?

I got my special pink 3-Day lanyard in the mail today! If you raise $500 (within a certain time frame, I think?) you get a special pink lanyard to wear around your neck for the walk. There are other colors too – team captain, and training walk leader for example. I’ve signed up to be a training walk leader so I hope to be sporting a different colored lanyard during the 3-Day this week. The pink 2007 lanyard looks pretty much like the pink 2006 version from last year :-)
