I had another local walker get in touch with me today about training in town. Last week, I was on the call to become a training walk leader, so now, I just need to submit my walk plan and get something scheduled. It’s getting to be so hot, and I don’t want to do much during the summer, so I’d like to get a few walks in now before the heat is too bad. Or else I’m going to be planning walks for 5am and midnight so we can avoid the sun.

Jim tried to entice me into taking a walk with him the other night, but by the time we did dinner, lunches, laundry, and then the kids went to bed…well, I was pooped. That’s the trouble with waiting til things calm down at home to walk…by the time we’re able to do it, I’m too pooped to move. Pretty soon it’s going to be getting hot, and the nights will be too muggy and buggy to walk. I’m not looking forward to continuing my training this summer.

I was on a conference call tonight with my 3-Day coach to get info on being a training walk leader. Unfortunately, I had to leave the call about halfway through, because it was dinner time in our house. (Why they scheduled a call for Florida people at 6pm…?) Anyway, all that’s left to do now is plan my route and get it listed on the training calendar for our area.

Yippee - I finally got my info on starting official training walks with the other 3-Day walkers in my area. I just have to attend a short conference call to go over the responsibilities of being a training walk leader, and then they’ll put me in touch with all of the walkers in the area. I live right by a big trail, so it’ll be great to not only get started on training with other walkers, but to meet some people I’ll see during the big walk in October. Maybe I’ll even get some new people on our team!

I found another potential walking partner who is very local for me. Most of my team members live at least 30 minutes away, so having someone “in town” is a big thing for me. I’m just not motivated to walk or train by myself - it’s no fun at all! I even have a fitness center in my office - but I only go in there once a week, and that’s not really a “training” schedule.

Provided I’m feeling better tomorrow, I’ll be attempting my first training walk. A friend of mine in the neighborhood wants to walk on the trail by our subdivision. I think this is a sign - normally I’m in the office on Tuesday, but this week, I’m not. Last week I didn’t go walking because it was so foggy and cold out, and my girls were home sick, but things have been nicer outside this week.

My fingers are officially crossed.

I had planned to go on a training walk today with some friends in the area, but the weather was SO nasty out! When I drove my son to school at 8:30 this morning, I could hardly see due to all of the fog. It was only about 50 degrees too. And with 2 sick girls at home, I decided my time would be better spent snuggling them and staying warm.

Maybe next week.

I’m planning on walking tomorrow morning with some friends! We’re going to hit the trail near my house. None of them are in the 3-Day, and some will be pushing strollers, so I’ll have to take it easy on them. I’m still happy to have someone, ANYONE to walk with. And once tomorrow’s walk is completed, I can put the “First Training Walk” sticker on my 3-Day credentials to show I completed it.

I didn’t make New Years Resolutions, but if I had, one of them would have been to get to the gym two or three times a week. I may be skinny, but I have zero muscle tone, and I don’t like it. If I can get to the YMCA a few times a week, I could change that. Build some upper body, work out my legs…tighten up my stomach to get rid of the mini muffin top…

whadya think?

One of my most recent bright ideas was to ask some moms I know in town if anyone wanted to work out together at the YMCA. I need someone to hold me accountable. Just knowing that someone is expecting me to show up at the gym at a certain time is enough - I can’t slack off that way.

I couldn’t find anyone with a YMCA membership! WAH!
