I may have found someone locally interested in working out at the YMCA with me – yay! She does spinning every night, and while I can’t deal with that kind of schedule, I am interested in getting to the gym 2 or 3 nights a week, at least. Having someone to meet me there will force me to go!

I am proud to say that I’ve used my breasts for something other than attracting attention from men. More than just filling out a tight shirt. More than just an excuse to buy a pretty bra.

Yes, for the first few months of each of my children’s lives, they relied on me and my breasts for nourishment. It certainly wasn’t easy, but breastfeeding my kids was one of the best things I could do for them at that time. I almost gave up…when my oldest was about a week old, I got a horrible fever of 104, and flu like symptoms. I went back to the doctor to make sure I didn’t have an infection. It turned out that I had mastitis…but the only thing to do was to nurse through the pain.

Nursing got a little tougher with each baby – it’s hard to sit down for a while and feed your newborn when you have 2 little girls clamoring for your attention, so I borrowed a Medela Pump In Style from a friend and would pump from time to time. I could have used a site with breast pump reviews back then, as the first two pumps I tried were horrid, and hurt terribly, and didn’t produce results. The Medela was worth it’s weight in gold, and it’s come down quite a bit in price over the last few years, making it a lot more affordable. Another thing I could have used was advice and information on storing breastmilk and how to pump, especially as a relatively clueless first time mom! It’s fantastic to see all of this information in one spot to help moms who are considering purchasing a pump.

Remember how I set a person goal to have raised $500 by the end of January? I’m happy to announce that I met my goal – I actually had 3 people take notice that my fundraising today was at $95, and they each contributed a little something to help me out.

First – my daughters. I mentioned at dinner last night that I was $5 away from my goal, and BOTH of my daughters went and got their own money and presented it to me. My oldest also put in $5 for my team mate, Sindy, and $5 for my sister. After dinner, I checked my email, and there was a little something from Marcus as well!

Because I raised $500 in my first 60 days of fundraising, I now will receive a special pink lanyard to wear during the walk to show off that achievement!

Have you ever needed to call 911 to request an ambulance? I have, and it was one of the scariest moments of my life. I was bitten by a caterpillar (one of those big fuzzy ones) and had an extremely strong allergic reaction to it. My arm felt like it was on fire. I thought I would die before the ambulance got there, but I didn’t, and they took care of me. Another time, our daughter got into her vitamins, and ate too many – we had to ride in an ambulance to the childrens hospital. Never a dull moment! And whenever I see the helicopter that transports the worst cases down to Tampa, I saw a little prayer – not just for the victims of the accident who need help, but for the people working in the air evac, that they are able to save a life. I’m sure paramedics and people working in air evac have amazing tales to tell. I found this story online about a man from Japan who injured himself in the US, and was transported back to Japan by a medical team. The flight took 19 HOURS and they had to stop in Seattle, Alaska, and Russia for fuel before arriving back in Japan. In the end, the patient arrived safely though, and that’s what matters. The same air evac company also transported hospital patients in danger of being of being hit by Hurricane Rita to a safer location. Never a dull moment!

I found the amazing story of Matt McKenna online tonight. 1 1/2 years ago, Matt weighed in at 500 pounds, and he was only 34 years old. He couldn’t walk from his house to his car without becoming short of breath, he struggled to breathe, and his joints couldn’t support his weight. Matt decided to change his life on October 3, 2005, and through diet and exercise, lost over 250 pounds!

I try to stay on top of current events in health and such, especially when I need to use it for content on this blog. Sadly, health news is usually buried in my hometown newspaper, on page 17 of section Z, or it ends up being a 20 second segment on the news. Who the heck has time to WATCH the news? I found a site with current health and weight loss information articles that I’ll be bookmarking – perhaps I’ll be inspired by something I read there and will end up blogging about it here!

A big thank you to the following people, who each donated $20 in the past week:

Eileen
Jennifer
Lisa

To date, I have collected $435 in donations. I am $65 away from meeting the goal I set for January, which was to have $500 in donations. I am $1765 away from my overall goal of $2200.

Because of their donations, they will be linked in my sidebar. If YOU donate $20, I’ll link to your website or blog also! It’s a great way to boost traffic and pagerank for your website, while doing a good deed. If you want to know more about how this donation promotion works, read this entry, entititled $40 down, $2160 to go.

Please donate, and help me reach my goals, in addition to funding important breast cancer research and outreach programs.

I found this website that lets you create personal ringtones with matching avatars. You know, so when your phone rings in the grocery store, 10 other people don’t check THEIR phones too, right? The first 60 days of the service are free too, so you can try before you buy. Check it out here – oh, you can email the ringtones to your friends too. And post them to your MySpace page! Pretty neat of them to sponsor this post so I could tell you about it, eh?

I’ve been trying to convince my husband to go to a sleep clinic for a long time. He needs to be shown how horrible he sleeps at night! Tossing, turning, snoring – it’s crazy. I wish I could do a video of it. And drooling…he’d like to say it’s because he’s dreaming of me, but it’s really because he’s a mouth breather. He went to an ENT several years ago and found out he has a deviated septum which contributes to his breathing issues, but he’s not interested in having the surgery to correct it. Probably because his sleep isn’t being interrupted by it – but mine is! Drooling In Sleep can be because of your posture, or dental issues, or even because you’re sick. You swallow less per night than you do when you’re awake so all of that saliva builds up in your mouth and sometimes ends up on your pillow!
